Yup, you read that right. For people with a dairy intolerance or vegan, eating caramel popcorn is not an option. Not to mention that most caramel popcorn made commercially is filled with white refined sugar and contains many chemical additives that no one can pronounce (and GMO corn!). But fear no more, with my healthy vegan caramel sauce, you’ll be able to enjoy this guilt-free treat!
I will warn you though, this is the kind of popcorn that will get your fingers completely drenched in caramel sauce. Very messy to eat, but oh-so-delicious, and healthy!
Corn is naturally gluten-free, and since we’re not adding anything that might contain gluten in it, that makes it suitable for anyone with a gluten allergy. Definitely make sure it’s organic popcorn kernels though, since the majority of corn on the market is genetically modified (GMO). If you’re not sure what GMOs are, check out this article.
So, you’ll need:
- 1/3 cup un-popped organic popcorn kernels
- vegan caramel sauce, cooled for at least a couple of hours in the fridge
Simply pop the kernel in a very large pot just under medium heat, with a lid. Don’t open the lid until you don’t hear any “pop” anymore, and take it off the heat first. Be very careful when you open the lid, don’t put your face over it! haha
Pour in a bowl, drizzle with caramel sauce, and enjoy immediately (it tastes awesome when it’s still warm).
YUMMY!
