I’ve made this super simple Raw Avocado Chocolate Mousse recipe a few times for a quick, satisfying, and healthy dessert. This is very easy, and kids can definitely make it. It’s a healthy chocolate mousse made with only 3 ingredients (5 if you want to be fancy). Avocado, chocolate, and maple syrup. You might think it’s odd, but give it a try and you’ll be convinced!
Avocado
Why is this dessert healthier than most desserts out there? Because it only has a few ingredients, and because it’s made with avocados. Avocados have been popular in the recent years because on top of being versatile in the kitchen, they are a great source of omega 3, an essential fatty acid that many North-Americans need (i.e., good fats).
The 80s and 90s were such strange decades when everybody thought that all fats were bad and it all started the fat-free craze, but as we now know, we need fat for our bodies (including our brain) to function. Without good fat, our body cannot absorb certain micro-nutrients, such as the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, and even protein (nutrient), among many other things. Without good fat, it is also very hard to lose weight, funny enough.
Some of the health benefits from eating avocados include arthritis relief, lower blood cholesterol levels and decreased risk of heart disease.

Chocolate
Another healthy component of this recipe is the cocoa powder, preferably raw cacao powder, which is a good source of minerals, especially magnesium. This essential mineral helps in maintaining healthy functions in muscles, nerves, and bones, as well as blood pressure and a healthy heart rhythm.
So go ahead and enjoy a healthy treat (in moderation, of course)!
You can make it in a food processor, or in a blender (I’ve tried both).

We have avocados quite often, but mostly in savory dishes. I want to try this, now. I agree with everything you said about the good fat!
Eyecandypopper says
I don’t often use them in sweet dishes, but they are quite versatile! It’s such an easy recipe, it’s worth a try for sure!

I have an avocado that is a bit too ripe right now and I think it needs some cocoa powder love right now 🙂

The perfect combination!

Delicious! I make this a lot (my 3 year old post is now in private mode until I get better photos on it, lol) but I love your addition of hazelnut butter.
Eyecandypopper says
haha this was also a reshoot for me 😉 Although it’s not necessary, the hazelnut butter really takes it to another level!

Yum! This looks so decadent and of course I appreciate the simple, natural ingredient list. Your photos are particularly stunning here Gabby — I love the contrasting pops of colour against the bright background, and of course, those sweet springy lilacs! Hope you’re enjoying the long weekend.
Eyecandypopper says
Thank you Justine! 🙂 It felt very spring-like!

I really like avocado but I have a hell of a time finding good ones here! I only buy one or two a month now instead of wasting the money. Next time I get a good one I’ll try this out, Gaby! It looks delicious.
Eyecandypopper says
Thanks! I went through a bunch of them to be able to get some good ones for this recipe, and I ended-up having to use under-ripe ones. haha It’s always such a hit and miss. I think it’s easier in the winter when they’re in season.
