I don’t make smoothies very often, maybe a few times per month, like this delicious Blueberry smoothie, but this one was calling my name (click here to see more smoothie recipes). This simple peach and date smoothie is so refreshing and delicious, it’s easy for beginners and a great way to introduce picky eaters to healthier foods. This can also make a nice treat for dessert (perfect for the kids’ lunches), or even a quick breakfast on-the-go (for breakfast, I would add a handful of organic baby spinach to add more nutrients).
The dates add a little bit of wholesome sweetness (don’t put too many though!) and the hemp hearts add a creamy texture, as well as great nutrients such as essential omega 3s, fibre, proteins, and minerals. Yummy! I like my smoothies not too cold so I never use ice in them. The cold from the refrigerated milk and/or frozen fruit is enough. When we eat or drink closer to room temperature, it’s easier on our digestive system.
Enjoy!

P.S.: Because peaches are on the Dirty Dozen list, don’t forget to buy them organic to reduce your exposure to pesticides and other harmful chemicals. Wondering what is so special about organic? Click here to read the 5-part series explaining how organic agriculture touches every part of our lives.
Easy banana, peach & date smoothie (2 servings)
- 1 organic banana, ripe
- 3-4 ripe organic peaches or 1 cup frozen organic peach chunks
- 2-3 large medjool dates, pits removed
- 2 cups nut milk or rice milk
- 1-2 Tbsp hemp hearts (or 1 tsp chia seeds)
Simply blend everything in a blender, or with an immersion blender. Add a bit of water if it’s too thick. Enjoy!
